Well, its been six days since Weasleys leg was amputated and he is doing very well. He is adapting just fine to it, hates the cone the most. I woke up last night and somehow he had gotten out of it in his crate and i was praying all stitches were still there. Luckily they were all still there and im not sure he even realized the cone was off the incision looked untouched thank goodness. Does anyone have any secret tips about the e-collars? If he gets out of it again, it might be a lot worse. Thanks for all the positive thoughts sent our way we both appreciate it very much! And i swear the day he does not that dang cone ever again DRINKS ON ME
We are almost 3 weeks into our girl’s front leg amputation. Our vet never put an ecollar on her, just a t-shirt, which was changed daily. She never touched her wound, maybe because she was on 4 drugs at the time. Her wound is pretty healed up now, and we’ve discovered she wants us to lightly itch it or massage it. When we do, she leaves it alone. Also, something that worked really well for her was adding Valerian Root to a spoon full of yogurt to relax her. The meds they are on to keep the pain down also can cause anxiety. (I asked our vet about Valerian and they said it is OK as long as their anxiety doesn’t increase from it which is unlikely). We found that the pain meds can also cause a degree of restlessness, and then they fall asleep for a long while. Gentle massage seemed to help our girl a lot. She would just melt when we did that. I hope these suggestions are helpful.
Did someone say DRINKS ON ME?
We’re THERE! 😉
Glad to hear that Weasley is doing well. Yeah, the cone is a DRAG. Here is our poor Wyatt after his surgery. In fact he looks like this right now, because he’s been chewing on a raw spot on his foot. You might want to consider this “double cone” tactic:

Sounds like yall need a drink to!! I hate the cone. I know he does he is so ready to play fetch again. We did a little light game of it the other day and he did well but then slipped on his leg and it scared me so i put the cone back on and crated him. His incision is looking great which im glad. And when im around i have been taking the cone off but if im not there to supervise it goes right back on. Only a week left of the cone!!
